  1. I highly recommend that you take the Basic Rider Course offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Here is a link to the sites that they offer the test in Georgia.

The state of Georgia also offers the Basic Rider Course (they are usually nearly identical to those offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation).

  2. In a big empty parking lot.

    Really.

The motorcycle safety courses are all taught in a parking lot.

You need to learn to handle the bike at low speeds, riding in different cone patterns, braking patterns and start - stop conditions.

Riding at higher speeds in traffic comes later, riding near an experienced friend who rides and can handle problems.

recommend you sign up for a rider Course at the local community college, before trying to hit the roads. Practice as I said in parking lots. More people I know have fell off of abike at low speed while braking and parking then at higher speeds. (better way to fall also, hurts less) Of course those high speed falls can really hurt or kill a person.

Enjoy riding, I have been for 35 years.

  3. Check out if your state has courses.  They have the motorcycles  provided, its usually a 3 day course, one day classroom, and the next 2 days driving around cones and stuff.  Then if you pass the test at the end you get endorsed! You just have to get your learning permit at the DMV first.  Thats the way it works in MN anyway.  The class is worth the $.

  4. Call your local MSF.

  5. Start off in a parking lot somewhere and practice for about a month. Then trailer it out somewhere away from the city and ride for another month practicing stopping and speeding. At nights practice sliding down the street on your butt and head. Do lots of rolls and tumbles down some of the hills around there and after a year or so try riding on the 285 perimeter and go from say from Cleveland to Forest park? If you survive then you can ride a bike. Just kidding, but that is a place I will personally never ride. Too many cars and trucks running 80+ and jumping all over the road.

Seriously though, it seems the consensus that every state either recognizes or requires a safety course of some kind. Enroll and listen to the instructor because they know what you need to know for a particular area. Follow instructions and be careful. Maybe we'll pass each other on the road somewhere and wave? Bet it won't be downtown Atlanta on I-75 though!

  6. near scenic highway and 78 theres a sunshine motorcycle school. MSF courses in this area are booked till september sometime. Expect to pay almost 300 bucks for either though. If you do sunshines, bring LOTS of liquids, it gets really hot. You'll need long sleeves and gloves. Sneakers are fine, even though their website says otherwise.
