  1. Try and live in the Rotherhithe end. It's pretty nice down that way. Avoid living south of Jamaica Road, it's just council estate after dodgy council estate. Stick as close to the river as you can, it's nicest by the river. Or Butlers Wharf area, it's all good down there too. Bit expensive but at least you're far away from the social housing.

  2. I am Italian too and i live very close to Bermondsey, it reall ydepends where in the Area you are going to live. Bermondsey use to be really bad but it is getting better.

  3. I live pretty near to Bermondsey!  I rate it highly!

I don't think it's bad at all ... okay, so it's not the wealthiest area as it's mostly council housing, but it isn't really dangerous.  I walk around at all hours of the night (as a single female) and have never had any problems at all.  The worst that has ever happened is that some kids kicked a brick at me, but it was an accident - they were just kicking it around and I happened to walk around the corner.

Probably the biggest downside is that there's not much in the way of nightlife there.  That said, there seem to be a lot of students (I'm not a student) so maybe they know where to go more than I do.  BUT it's so close into the centre of London that that's not a huge problem that there's not much there.  It's so close to London Bridge etc that you can walk home after a hard night of drinking so you don't need to worry about getting the last tube or pissing around with night buses.  If you need a cab, it will be well cheap and no driver will ever refuse to take you there.

It's located on the Jubilee Line which is totally the best line to be on.  You can easily get into the West End or down to Canary Wharf.  It's only one stop from London Bridge which has connections to Gatwick and Luton Airports, and lots of cool places that you might want to visit like Brighton.

EDIT:  You're not renting a room from Nice Room, are you?  I only ask because I believe they have some properties around West Lane.  I rent through them, they are **** and I would never, ever recommend them to anyone.
