I'm joining volleyball and as it seems tough, I'm trying to work out now. Are there any exercises to do?

I'm entering a high school volleyball team for girls and I have close to no experience. Vocabulary would need explaining and if possible I would like someone from a high school volleyball team to explain, or someone who played volleyball in high school or on another team. Thank you!

  1. Well, to further explain the bump, set, spike, and serve.

There is a form that all volleyball players use to spike. You start at the spiking line (which will be marked on a court) and take a large step (which whatever foot you feel comfortable with) and two smaller steps and then jump up to spike the ball. Remember, hit down!

There are basically 3 ways to serve: underhand, overhand, and jump serve. I usually jump serve. You can find a way of serving you prefer and feels comfortable.

    VOCAB:

Mine//Got it: used to call the ball.

Free: used to say that the ball will be hit by anyone and can be anyone's point.

Another key to volleyball is to move around and always cal the ball! be agressive and not afraid to dive for the ball.

If you need any more help, please feel free to e-mail me.

  2. I can help you but like what terms and stuff...to get a feel for what you need to know....respond quickly and ill help!

ok...so your on the right track.

go to the website that is underneath and read.  it will help you because if i start talking about the different types of serves, i will be here forever!!!  Look at the basic, and don't mind the "high tech stuff" because it will just get you confused.  Add more info if you need any clarifications.

  3. try to look for a volleyball camp around you. Go to as many as you can this summer. Usually your highschool will hold camps or at least open gyms depending on where you live. Get as many touches on the ball as you can every day. The more you are around the game, the better off you'll be.
