There is this benefit for my uncle who passed away about a month ago. I have never heard of having a benefit for people that are no longer with us. I was just wondering what is to be expected. Is it like a donation thing or what?

  1. Sometimes benefits are held for the family of the deceased.  This is usually the case when the family has very little after the deceased has been buried.  The money earned from the benefit will likely defray any medical expenses, funeral expenses or help with minor children.

You can donate or attend the function and pay the admission fee.

Sometimes you can also donate goods like food, clothing or gift cards to the family. It all depend on the fundraiser.

  2. Sounds like the funeral needs to be paid for. I haven't heard of having a benefit for a deceased person.  i guess there was no life insurance and this is how to make the bills.

  3. where I am from (alabama) if you can't guess that :) when we have a benefit it is usually some kinda party where you buy food or drinks or beer that other people have donated and the money goes to the family. Thats how it is here for a benefit. it is usually something to round up some money.

  4. Yes, usually benefits are set up to make money, so you will probably be expected to either make a donation, or pay for your entertainment, and also pay for your food. And yeah, benefits are usually for those still living, but perhaps he died due to illness and had a long time in the hospital? Bills don't go away just because you die- someone still has to pay. I'm assuming it is to cover those costs, or perhaps it is to set up a fund for something in his name? Like a scholarship fund or something to help others with a condition that he had? I'd find out what the benefit is raising money for, but yes- benefits are usually there to raise funds.

  5. Yes, it's a way to celebrate his life and also a way to make money for the funeral costs, etc.

  6. I've heard of benefits for causes. It depends what caused his death. If he had cancer, it could be a collection for cancer research
