  1. A sports medicine physician holds an M.D., which means an undergraduate degree in some field followed by medical school, several years of residency, and then years of fellowship. This is essentially the same path for all physicians, but the years of residency and fellowship are variable depending on the specialization desired. For sports medicine you would do about 3 years of residency. Then, you can enter an orthopedic surgery fellowship and become a surgeon, or just a sports medicine fellowship. Best of luck!

  2. In high school you should take math and science classes. To reach your goal, 4 years university, 4 years medical school, 2 years residency, more years for a specialty like surgery. Surgeons fix things that are wrong, so if you specialize in sports medicine you will be sought out by athletes. Good luck
