Is there anyone willing to teach me around Elyria, Ohio? Either that or is anyone aware of classes or programs around the area with the specific focus on this hobby? Thank you so much

  1. There are video tutorials for most anything on youtube (dot) com if you can't find someone in your area.

  2. It's not the thickness of yarn that matters. I would start with an average sized yarn... I found starting with a bigger crochet needle is easiest. Have you tried the simple granny square? When I first began  crocheting I made granny squares over and over. Before I knew it, it perfected my crocheting abilities. You can make blankets, scarves, even sweaters using the granny square. Also, if you'd like I have some amazing patterns, from beginner to advanced. Let me know. I like to say if you can chain you can crochet! It's that easy!

  3. The book that taught me everything, and that I still refer to from time to time is the "Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework". It has instructions for all sorts of crafts, but the diagrams and pictures are just great. The copyright is from 1979. It even has a section on how to crochet if you're a lefty.

  4. A class is the best way to go if you can do it. If not, see if your library has any books aimed at teaching children to crochet - they're written with clear steps and illustrations.

To find a class, check local fabric/craft stores, your local adult education programs, and your park district - they all either offer reasonably-priced classes or can direct you to teachers. Some libraries offer classes, too.

It's a fun, satisfying hobby - good luck with getting started.

  5. Sarah,

I agree that having a person teach you is usually best, but would like to recommend Nexstitch.com as a great teaching website for crochet (regular or Tunisian).  I have  no one to teach me Tunisian in my area and have learned a lot with their video clips.

  6. Hi, I have to agree that the best way to learn to crochet is with somebody who knows and from books for the beginners to crochet. You can look some book in Borders bookstore(this is the one what I know). Also dont worry about if is tight. You just have to crochet more and with the time it will be fine.
