  1. Callaway bought Top-flite a while back and is now making some good introductory stuff for beginners.  They are good clubs with good technology for beginners.  The best thing about it is the price. Here is the link, going price is $199 from Callaway but you can find this exact same set cheaper on ebay.  Good luck.

  2. Just pick up a starter set for as cheap as possible.  Use the $500 or so you save on lessons from a professional.  Then if you really like the game, get some assemblance of a swing, you can upgrade to a properly fit set of clubs.  There is no best brand for anyone despite what the OEM fanboys say.

  3. I agree with rock_     DO NOT spend more then $200.00 for the entire set (including bag).  You may realize once you get out there and start playing, you might not like it.  For an beginner, you won't be able to tell the difference between a ($179.00) ACUITY set from d**k's or a $1,299 set of Callaway's.

My advice is to go to d**k's Sporting Goods.  Their "brand" is Acuity.  They have a complete set (driver, fairway woods, hybrid, irons, putter, bag...)  for $179,  (I believe the bag is YELLOW & its called Voltage.  Use that set for the first year and if you like it... and get better, you can upgrade at that point.   Good luck!

(p.s....   be very sure not to get a "starter set" which includes a driver, and only 3 irons.  This isn't a full set and it wont give you the chance to learn the game the right way using each individual club.   A full set includes:  Driver, 3W, 5W, 3-PW, Putter, Bag.

  4. Ping...excellent custom fit process. I love mine.

  5. You should look at Izzo, they are a notch above other starter set brands in terms of quality, however are not ridiculously expensive, like the name brand companies.

  6. buy a starter set at ***** then as your game improves and you learn more about it,you can upgrade to a better set of clubs

  7. I use Adams, but you can purchase any brand that you want to.

  8. Also, check yard sales and swap meets for used clubs. I started out with a set of semi rusted irons and wedges. I bought a Wal Mart driver and had two woods actually made out of wood! (still use the woods though). The point being, you need to learn your swing and see if golf is a game for you. You could spend the 200 bucks on the brand new starter set or 50 bucks and get a couple of lessons from a course pro. Good luck and congrats for getting into the mess we call golf.

  9. i would recomend you to go to a golfsmith  and have the sales guy look at your swing speed and ball spin etc, they have a computer program that will tell them a lot of things about your swing and then he will tell you what clubs are good for you, its free you dont have to tip them or anything, they get a comision when you buy the stuff

  10. I wouldn't be concerned about a particular brand yet until you learn the basics of the game.  I started with a set from Wal-Mart.  Once I learned the basics I played Mizunos and would recommend them to anyone.  I currently play Nike everything(driver to putter).
