I'm kinda confused about signing the Army contract?

I'm planning on going active duty so if I sign a 4 year contract I'll have to serve 4 more years as inactive duty right?

I want to be a 68w health care specialist and be in the Airborne so would it be possible to sign a 3 year contract with that? or would they not waste their money for only 3 years?

I haven"t looked much into signing a contract yet so I'm trying to educate myself the best I can before I do so any info you know would help a lot. thanks.

  1. Your recruiter should help u with that.

  2. call and speak with your recruiter. he should be able to help with any questions or concerns.

  3. Yes thats right, Discuss it with your recruiter !i

  4. I can't help you but to tell you not to sign  up  until you fully research this ......... I support or Troops   BUT they have been misled many times by our gvrnment.so please make sure  this is the commitment that you intend to live by  for 3yrs or longer  where every they send you . Our Military is  lacking in numbers and the USA needs  good/great people to serve and protect this country  within and abroad.

    Good Luck

  5. Sorry

  6. I dont know if it has changed, but it was an 8yr obligation. X number of years active, if that is what you chose, the rest inactive reserve or NG or Army Reserve . Talk to your recruiter about enlistment length with that job with the Airborne option. You are doing the right thing by doing your research BEFORE you sign up. hope it works out, thanks for serving . GO AIRBORNE !

  7. You're one of those that what all the training and benefits of the military but don't want to put in the time. What is so wrong with serving 4 years or 40 years. You say you haven't looked much at signing a contract. Seems to me you haven't put much in on the thinking part either.

  8. To answer your first question, yes. No matter how many years you sign up for you have an obligation for 8 years. Say that I enlisted for 6 years active duty and decided to get out, I would then be on IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) status for 2 more years. Granted most Soldiers who get out after their active duty time don't get called up while in this status, some do.

To your second question. Yes you can probably get a 3 year active duty contract with that MOS if you tell the MEPs personnel that's all you will settle for. You can also get Airborne in your contract, although most Airborne units don't have combat support or combat service support personnel on jump status. You would basically be what we call a "5 jump chump". Meaning you would only have jumped the minimum of 5 from Airborne School.

  9. If you are looking for an intelligent answer to your question I would suggest you talk to someone that has the answer, like an Army recruiter.

  10. Hmmm sounds  like your unsure and you want to take an easy route well i just enlisted into the air force as of today  i got out of the navy thank god and got into something better......as i am aware of there is no 3 yr contract and i believe your career field is a 6yr contract plus what ever years you have to put into on reserves which i think is 4 as well........i myself signed as 4yrs and 4 reserved and i am hoping to go in as a firefighter...........but other then that go talk to your recruiter best person for these sort of questions

  11. Yes, you will go for 4 active and 4 in-active ... IRR  Individual Ready Reserve....if I recall correctly; you could be called back to serve the remaining time.   You don't get paid during the in-active years.

If they offer the 3 year active you would do 5 in active.

I've met some on a 2 year active ... 6 year in active.   (rare, but have seen it)

  12. Do not sign until you are sure.
