I heard there is a strike... anyone know the effects of it? Is there anything I should know before I leave that most people probably wouldn't think of? Any help is appreciated :)

  1. I live on the island. its a civil strike, normal anywhere.

everything's the same. just make sure before u leave the hotel if there's any road blockage going on somewhere..

btw la cabana is a nice open hotel... great bar :P

    beach right in front.

    enjoy!

  2. I Love La Cabana!!!!

Tues., Thurs. & Fri. is the band Oreo by the pool for happy hour. It is the best place to stay as far as I'm concerened and I've stayed at several hotels.

There is still a strike...it's the Polis but the other unions have included themselves in support of the pay issue. You won't experience any delays or problems because the supervision and management positions are actually performing those jobs right now so if anything things are actually running smoother because they already know their jobs.

Go to http://www.aruba.com and you can get info on the activities and food available.

I highly recommend a day at Baby's Beach for snorkeling...it's like swimming in an aquarium. It's only waist high so even woosies like me have fun doing it. And for lunch go up the beach to Coco Beach Bar.

Always fun too is the Taboo (boat)...bikinis, great music, just plain fun!

I guess the biggest unkown for first time visitors is that they have mosquitos...so take your cream//spray along. Not to worry though if you forget it its available in the gift shop.

Most of all...Have a Great Trip!

  3. it's a civil service strike. I don't think the hotels will be affected.get dinner at the sunset grille at the radisson. Fabulous food. Vittorio's has the best Italian The chef at the radisson wrote a very good guide book.

  4. My Mom just got back from Aruba; there were some protests by civil-workers, but nothing that got in the way of their service at the hotel or restaurants.

La Cabana is great - you do have to cross the street to get to the beach, so sturdy flip-flops (to run across the road without getting hit!) are helpful, and a bag to carry your snacks in (so you don't have to go back to the room/snack bar too early!).

Enjoy your time there - they have a great 2-for-1 Happy Hour (and I recommend a drink called the "Cocada")...though, I gained 8 pounds on my Honeymoon...probably most of it was Cocada weight!

  5. Avoid anyone named Van der Sloot
