Question:

I'm living out of a campervan in New Zealand. Do I need one with showers, or are there free public showers?

I'm not planning on staying at hostels, so I'm wondering about other bathing options that may be available. I'll be there for two months [for their winter, leaving on Wednesday] so not showering is a little bit much, even for me. Price difference is a few hundred dollars over the two months I'll be there.

  1. There are bugger all free showers. You are best to get a campervan with one in it.

  2. Most campervan parks have shower facilities although they may not be the cleanest or warmest so it would be best to invest in a campervan with a shower.

  3. If in the big cities - there are showers free (hot) at city missions and try womens centers, shelters and most of the swimming pools have free hot showers for elsewhere. There are also showering facilities at most police stations and social services places like Community Centres. - All free or donation. Universities are also great and bigger resort towns like Taupo offer showers for a couple of dollars. Best bet is local swimming centers for $NZ 2.50 a go. - Most cities and towns in NZ have a swimstation where you can go.

  4. light a fire, boil some water on it, stab some holes in a plastic bag . proceed to stand under it and ur good to go. OR, just stick the water in a bucket and get someone to poor it over u once ur all soaped up. FREE AS. personaly i'd stick it out and not shower, if your going to live in a campervan you mays well smell like someone who does. its the only time you can get away with it

  5. no free "hot" public showers, just a few random showers at beaches which would be freezing

are you going to be parking at camping grounds?? if so then you'll have access to hot showers, toilets, kitchen etc

powered sites are roughly $20 a night, non powered $18 a night

    http://holidayparks.co.nz/

these two sites give you locations and information about holiday parks throughout NZ

  6. My wife and I spend 3 weeks travelling NZ in a camper without a shower and had no problems staying clean.  Every campground we visited had access to some form of shower.

  7. I think you really need to pay the extra hundreds of dollars and get the bath. The free bathing options if any are few and far between. Although I stayed completly in hostels, I do not remember seeing any free showers at all!!
