Question:

I'm looking at booking a flight to Orlando and return. Coming home I change planes in Chicago?

My concern is that I only have 35 minutes between landing and taking off on another plane. Is this feasible? I am thinking that I might be late into Chicago and miss the flight or even have my baggage not make my new plane.

I guess the question is . . . is 35 minutes do-able at the airport in Chicago? Both planes are in Terminal 1.

  1. yes, i had an experience where the flight got late into chicago and then i had to run across the terminal in 12 minutes...luckily i didn't have to take the stupid little bus thing.  Chicago is known for MAJOR delays coming in, and going out, so if i were you i would try to get more time for a layover just to be safe.  but if a flight with a longer layover is more expensive, book the one with the 35 minutes in between, and if you are late to your next plane, it is the airlines fault and they will try to get you on the next available flight.  but if the place you are going to from chicago doesn't receive any flights after the one you were supposed to be on, the airline won't pay for a hotel unless you get them to somehow.  but try to get more time!  i try to avoid Chicago O'Hare at all costs though, just because it is a really bad airport for delays.  also, O'Hare can't handle a drop of rain.  if you are flying on united, try to connect in denver or Washington DC - Dulles, or if you are on American, try to connect in St. Louis or Dallas, but i like St. Louis better than Dallas.

  2. That is a very tight connection time,

no matter what airport it is in.

    If everything goes exactly right,

and the gates are not TOO far apart you

could make it, but I would try to find

a connection with more time between flights:

    at least 1 hour.

Years ago, I had a 1 hour connection in

Chicago, my first flight was 45 mins late -

by running - halfway across the city of

Chicago it seemed - *I* made the second

flight, but my suitcase did not.

  3. The current recommended minimum connection time at ORD is 70 minutes.  I personally would not even consider less than an hour, and usually shoot for 90 minutes.  I'd rather spend an extra hour in a gate lounge than 5 hours trying to track down my luggage.
