I'm 16 and some advice would be great. What's a reasonable price to pay? (I've seen some second hand ones which sound a bit too good to be true). Any helpful information to help me buy the right one appreciated!

  1. jeez Ellie i thought you were 'Morgan'? dont tell me to get f***** again

i agree with joe b, any vespa is too expensive for a 16yr old, a proper motorbike would be a lot more convinient with all factors. Trust me a vespa isnt worth its price you are just paying for style. Just get a scooter or a motorbike theres a wide range with really cheap prices for quality

  2. Vespa is a brand name and they are very good and not cheap.  Piaggio and Vespa are the same company and are top of the line. Next is Kymco and they are about the best buy out there. They are rated above Honda and Yamaha the Japanese makers. A good price for a 50cc is about 1700 before taxes and setup and all of that stuff. I do not know what size you are looking for but Kymco makes them up to 500cc in many different styles. Next you have Genuine and they make Buddy and Stella also Derbi. Then of course your j*p brands and there you  pay the most for the name.

  3. If your heart is set on a Vespa, try to find a Bajaj!

The Bajaj Chetak and Legend are very good, and super reliable bikes!  Many old school Vespa owners have a Bajaj for the reliability, and pull out their Vespa for shows and rallies.

If this is not what you are most concerned with, I would go with Kymco for maximum reliability, for a minimum price.

Used bikes are always problems, but assuming you are looking for something around 125 or 150ccs, I would say you need $1,500 cash to negotiate with.

I have a 2006 Bajaj Chetak, and just took it on a 300 mile trip yesterday, which is not unusual for me.

    Happy riding to you!

  4. Some parts of the world, the Vespa scooter was the mainstay of 2 wheelers for many many years.  Here this scooter is abundant and cheap.  Other places it is a rarity and hence the price is more.

The fact remains that it has a charm of its own.  However the technology employed is firmly entrenched in the yesteryears.  This means that though it will be reliable, it may not be very fuel efficient by today's standards.  It may also be polluting, (2 stroke engine, mainly) and the road grip and braking too has to be undertaken with caution.  If you can overlook the shortcomings than it is a worthy companion and needs very little by way of maintenance.  However it would be good to know if you have spare parts back up.

  5. get one that is 5k and enjoy...i tried to get one for my sister but she loves a toyota corolla.... i wouldn't buy used... never know what they have been through

  6. Vespa Scooters are very expensive

Its my opinion the Japanese Scooters are much better quality and are less money than a Vespa
