I'm looking for a board game form the 40's to late 50's that features a wooden map of the world and oil wells

If you can think of the title, that would be great. I'm told that it was a shallow wooden box with wooden pieces that you shake up to disperse through the game board. Then, you would buy land to drill oil wells upon. Sound like anything?

  1. As for the game another poster mentioned, "King Oil", it came out in 1974, and full details can be had on that game here:

I don't think this is your game.

As for your game, try looking around http://www.boardgamegeek.com , which is the internet's best site for boardgame information.  You can search by partial game name, by category of game, etc.  I tired "wooden map" in the forums but nothing obvious popped out.  As for "Oil" in the game title here is a game from 1960 called "Oil: The Great Adventure":

    and pictures here

    Is this your game?

    Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  2. I don't know about the wooden game from that era, but when I was a kid we used to play a game called King Oil, I think. But I thought it came out in the 70's. But you definitely drilled for oil. Maybe its an earlier version of that game. You could do a search on it.
