  1. The 2008 Accord has achieved full size status and is still very efficient.  You may be able to find a gently used one for around $20,000.  Otherwise, the '06 and '07 models are very nice and don't give up much in the way of space.

Also consider both new and used models of the Malibu (2005-2008), G6(2006-2008), and Aura(2007-2008).  These GM sedans are much improved over previous models and will likely cost less than Honda/Toyota.  Make sure you go for the 4-cylinder though.

  2. The new 09' Sonata is one of the best values on the road plus one of the safest cars because it has Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control System as standard equipment. These are options on some cars in it's class. It's interior is classified as a "large car" by the EPA.

It's 4-cly engine makes good power at 175 HP but still gets 32 mpg highway.

Still after 10 yrs it still has one of the best warranties 10 yrs and 100,000 miles.

  3. I would add to the list above the Hyundai Sonata.  Reliability is significantly better than previous years. Refer to Consumer Reports for reliable cars.

  4. honda accord, nissan altima, toyota camry < all super reliable good gas mileage and plenty of interior and trunk space
