Question:

I'm looking for a chemical compound with the same effects as Chloroform but without the hazard. Any help?

I've been trying to find something with the sedative and 'knock out' abilities that Chloroform has. I'm using it as a test for a couple of things. Me and a couple of my friends are trying to see if everything done in Spy movies and video games are feasibly possible.

I've successfully constructed a grapple gun from a spear gun a diving friend and given it a special pulley so it'll wind itself up. That was part of the gadget phase, which is over now.

Right now I'm working on the 'special moves' phase. Which is dealing with knocking people out with a special hit to the neck, or using a rag soaked in chloroform, though I know that that is pretty damaging. So what's a good alternative?

  1. Although I DO NOT recommend you attempt what you are suggesting, diethyl ether could also be used.  It has a more favourable toxicity profile, with a larger difference between therapeutic and toxic dose.  Before you attempt this bear in mind that most solvents have the potential to be carcinogenic and you run a real risk of doing yourself serious harm (breathing in solvent will never be good for you!).  Ether anaethesia also comes with some pretty horrid side effects including nausea and vomiting.

  2. its named forane 141b

its the standard replacement for chloroform but Forane 141b is much less effective, and tends to leave a residue.
