Louisiana. I want to give my ex a lifetime lease on the home I owned prior to divorce. Yes, there is such a thing, I've just not been able to find a form for it.

  1. Louisiana law is tricky because of the French code law that creates the legal foundation in the state.

However, I believe what you are trying to is grant your spouse a life estate in the property. A life estate gives them an interest in the property which expires at death.

In many states, a spouse of a homeowner who lives in the property, has a life estate automatically granted, and the home may not be sold without the spouse's consent.

I would contact an attorney in your state.

  2. Different laws for different cities, states, provinces, and especially countries.

    Where are you?

Have not heard about lifetime leases of residential property in the U.S.A.

  3. Hire an attorney practicing in real estate law.  This is not something you want to do-it-yourself!
