  1. Praise is best when it focuses on the effort, not the outcome.  "You really tried hard." "Your efforts are really paying off."  "Look what your hard work has gotten you."  "Wow, those colors are beautiful together; tell me about that."  "How would you describe your work?  How do you feel about how you've done?  What else do you want to learn?"

"I hope you realize that here in school we are trying to get you to conform, squeeze all original thought out of your brain, all resistance from your political will, and all desire to learn from your heart.  I'm warning you of this so you will resist us with all your strength and make it out of here free."

  2. It is mostly in the tone that you use with what word you are saying. Saying "great" but say it as though you would be if you had just caught on to something. Think like a preschooler and how you were would have wanted someone to talk to you. My favorite word is "WOW" because you can really emphasize it. Be just as happy as they are when you say it. Or be just as happy as you would want them to be. It will work great.

  3. When you say a positive comment , let it come from your heart- not a canned comment you read on Yahoo. If you mean it , the child will belive it. otherwise it will sound fake.

  4. Go here...   http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/go...

Just let the kids know you are proud of them when they do their best, and disapointed if they don't try their hardest.  Kids love to please, so if you are happy when they do a good job they will try to do better all the time.

  5. stay simple. teach yourself not to correct children negatively. such as, no that isn't right. or that is incorrect. try again, or rephrase your question or repeat your question. another pet peeve of mine is, while teaching children and there is a question being ask and another child answers, i've seen teachers disrupt the flow by asking that child to sit down or put their hand down. which is sending that child and others not to interact. allow the children to answer and discuss and watch others that are not so talkative join in. they learn more from watching other children.

  6. Please, do not use the term "good boy" or "good girl" it puts a label on the child instead of the action. It also makes the other children feel like they are not good.  Reinforce the action. "Thank you for putting the books away." "Thank you for sharing" "Good Job on setting up the play area"

These work well in my preschool.

  7. Golly...you're going to hand out encouragement from a thesaurus.

you already know the words, or you wouldn't have a teaching cert.

The best words are spontaneous anyway.

Your smile and your tone mean more than the words you use.

  8. Anything that is not a negative remark.  Make sure that you look at each one of them and tell them good morning.

    Good job!

    Way to go!

I am so proud of you!

Things like that will do and you will get so much out of the kids.  Good luck.

  9. I have worked in Early Childhood for MANY years. I owned my own nursery school and taught pre-school and kindergarten there. Praising children was one of the most important concerns of mine. when they were with me, I was molding them, and shaping them. That age is so crucial. It is very important for them to have a strong self esteem.

When speaking to a child one on one, you should always try to say their name, and refer to yourself as I. Example: If Nathan has drawn a picture of his house and dog, and a tree, and he were to bring it to you, which response would sound better, and self esteem building?

    1. Wow, that's great! You did a good job!    OR

    2. Wow, Nathan, tell me about your picture. I Really like the colors that you chose. What is your favorite part of your picture? I really can't pick a favorite part, because you did such a good job on everything! I can't wait to show your mom/dad.

Now I know it takes more time, but not much more, and if your heart is really in it, it will come naturally!

  10. Try to steer away from the "good job" type praise, it just keeps children doing things to get affirmation from you rather than for their own explorations.  Try to let them know that you can see what they are doing, for example:

"You've been working really hard on that."

"You used lots of different colors."

    "Brian is painting with green."

"I see you running very fast!"

"You are being a good friend today by sharing with Ashley."

You don't want to tell children their work is "beautiful" or "pretty", etc.  That's fine to do at home, but at school if you tell one child that, then the others may think their work is ugly because you didn't tell them the same!  Just describe things as you see them - children just want confirmation that you are aware of their work and accomplishments.

  11. you can always say like:"you are good children"or praise them when doing something good or nice to someone else like:

"good job","nice going","that looks beautiful!","how lovely!","how nice of you","thank you" that type of praising.

  12. The best thing with young children, don't just say good job, well done, actually praise the skill or behaviour that they are showing for instance; you put that button on so well, or holding your arms out to balance is a great idea, good jumping, nice landing, I can see you were listening, well done, Good boy for looking after Tom when he was sad, etc etc. They understand exactly what you are happy with and helps reinforce that good behaviour.

If a child is struggling don't just do it for them or get impatient, try to encourage them to stick at it, for instance a child having difficulty opening a musli bar packet. Talk them through the steps and praise them all the time, saying "you are doing really well, i like to see you sticking at it....nearly there....."if they really want you to help compromise for instance "what if i held it while you snipped the top?"

  13. "good job" "thats wonderfu;!" "how'd you do that?!" "the best I"ve seen!" "i'm going to hang this up!" "great work!" "mind if I show the class?" "top student" "very hard worker" "keep it up!" **Hoped these helped!!Please rate my answer as best!!THanx!!**

  14. Outstanding, great job, way-ta-go, keep up the good work, you mean things like that.?
