I would like some advice on the best type of mitre box to purchase...I would need it for basic housing projects and I'm not sure if plastic or wood would be the best way to go..any recommendations would be greatly appreciated (along with places to purchase..) Thank you!!

  1. Lowes used to sell a plastic miter box with a saw included for less than $10.

  2. I personally use one made from rock maple, which is a very hard wood. A plastic one is cheaper though. Be sure the set comes with a high quality back saw.

  3. As mentioned , nothing wrong w/ a decent maple box for simple mitering & the backsaw  saw  does make all the difference.

Would look for an older Disston or Stanley & a little longer than what commonly comes w/ a cheap "kit for cleaner , easier cuts.

Personally have more confidence w/ building supply stores than w/ home centers.

    Best regards
