Question:

I'm looking for a place that can teach me how to truly fight. A place of heritage. Can you help me find it

I've been trying to find a place where I could study under someone I can truly trust and who can teach me how to truly fight. Don't care for places too much that allows anyone and everyone to get in as long as you have the cash for it. I want to be somewhere where they really teach you discipline and how to fight not like a lot of the fake dojos that have twisted styles into their own ideas. I know this place I dream of exists but I'm sure it probably wouldn't be here in America. Doesn't matter to me though. Just don't want to waist my time, and vice versa, with someone who's not truly trained. A place like back than that's not in it for the money or the sake of showing off. Though It's a long shot that someone who could point me in the right direction will see this, it's worth trying. Anyone know of such places or can give something to go on?

  1. I agree with Bunminju...any good tarditional school will not teach you how to fight, they will teach you to defend yourself. One of their primary goals will be to build your self respect up to the point where you do not feel the need to fight unless there is no other options. I would hazard a guess that even most MMA gyms that are reputable would look at you funny unless you are talking about fighting in the ring and not the street.

I agree that if all you want to learn is to fight you are not going to recognize such a school when you see it.

  2. There are indeed places that teach "true" fighting in America - you merely have to look.

Where in US do you live?

  3. First empty your bowl. Than come to our school.

  4. best i could find

    http://www.d-dojo.org/

good luck...if youve watched the show human weapon they have pretty good places on there 2

  5. Dont recommend what the first guy recommended

Okay so i cant give u to a school or certain videos but listen:

Try Taekwondo---> Taekwondo relies on its fatal kicks and speed, It also trains you in disipline and reflexes, its world's most popular martial art with over 70 million people training.

But it's kicks are fatal, punches are sorta weak so that's the flaw. Its also an Olympic Sport so if you earn a black belt in Taekwondo, you can put it on job application / college app. / and everyhting else. Good luck

BTW> Watermelon breaking? I have seen grandpas trained in Hapkido/Taekwondo/Muay Thai or whatever break it all the time.

  6. If you found it you wouldn't recognize it because of the already preconcieved notions you have of what it would be like.

In a dojo like that they may wonder why you want to learn something so banal and trivial as merely learning how to fight.

    Anybody can teach you that.

  7. Travel to Israel and learn Krav Maga under someone who trained the military.  They will teach you how to straight up kill people with a variety of weapon types including their own firearm.  The Israeli Army doesn't have time to **** around with martial arts moves that don't work.

If you don't want to leave America after all there is a Krav Maga group in Los Angeles.

Your anti western bias reveals you as fairly new to this martial arts business.  Life is not a kung fu movie and some of the best fighters are coming out of the USA right now.  Places like Xtreme Couture (Las Vegas) The Gracie Academy (Various, but Torrance is the big school) Legends MMA (Holly wood) and American Top Team (Florida) are all top fight schools.

Brazil is a hotbed of martial arts, and the beaches are great, too.  The Gracie Family is based out of there, and any school there that competes in Vale Tudo is bound to be tough.

Follow three simple rules:  1) effective martial arts are not bound in tradition, but dedicated to innovation.  2) Find a well rounded system.  If you can't fight on the ground, or you can't fight on your feet, then you can't fight, period.  3) To learn to fight you have to fight.

I'd also doubt the effectiveness of a school that wasn't physically demanding.  To be a great fighter you have to train like an athlete.

    Good luck.

  8. Where do you live or are you willing to move to?

And how many quickly do you expect to be able to fight?  Six months or six years?
