Question:

I'm looking for a riding school in or around Edinburgh?

When I was younger, I had a few bad riding experiences and as a result I have lost all my confidence with horses and riding. However, I used to love it so much and I have decided to try and conquer my fear and start all over again! I'm looking for a riding school in the above vicinity and would like to have a few private lessons at first to bring my confidence up again before possibly joining a group. Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. the best recommendations would come from the british horse society, who do a book of all approved riding schools.  also the association of riding schools do a list of all licensed stables.   they give assessments of the standard of teaching and facilities available.

these types of riding schools proudly display their certificates.

remember the saying, it takes 7 falls to make a good rider.

enjoy your riding.  scotland is lovely.

  2. Avoid Lasswade like the plague - it's been run by some very unsavoury people for many many years and you should give it a wide berth!

The best one was Westmuir, near South Queensferry - but that went out of business as a riding school and is now livery only.  Tower Farm is OK.  It depends which side of town you're from; if you can make it out to Broxburn/Uphall in West Lothian, Houston is very good indeed - ask for Anne.  She is brilliant, and can put confidence into the most scaredy of all.  The Grange (West Calder) is not my cup of tea at all; it depends on what you are used to, and they have an approach to riding that I'm not keen on.

There are some very very good instructors who work away from school environments on clients' own horses - email if you want a list when you get to that stage! :)

Anyway, go to Anne at Houston Farm. Good luck!

  3. Edinburgh, ?. What state? I think that would be helpful to your answerers. If not, I would Yellow Page it or Google it. Good luck!!! :)

  4. Hi =]

Go to Tower Farm <3 I go to Tower Farm and I have been going since I was 3. (I am 13)

If you are around 5ft - 5ft 4 then ask for Blue or Solo (Blue is reeeally slow but the sweetest horse ever and Solo (he will go fast if you ask him to but slow if you ask him to)

If you are shorter than 5ft then ask for Harry (soooooo sweeeeet) or later on you want a challenge then ask for Foxy (super super FAST)

Shorter than 4ft 8 then ask for Classic (my favvvee pony EVERR) or Lupin

When you book ask for a Beginners class but go to that like 2 times to get your confidence back then ask for a Beginners + class.

    Good Luckk (:

  5. This is a good one - I went here for lessons and hacks. It's on the South side, down near the crematorium.

    Tower Farm

    85, Liberton Drive, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH16 6NS

    Tel: 0131 664 3375

They do everything from private lessons to full day hacks - they manage to go out all day in Edinburgh without going through the town!

  6. Since I don't know what state this is in I can't really help. What I would do is use yellow pages to find it. But remember about being afraid, horses are not intentionally mean animals. (Unless abused or something). Everything they do (rear, kick, bite) is out of fear. I am glad you have got your courage back. Let your instructor know about any fears you have and he will be able to coach you through them.
