Question:

I'm looking for an all natural safe plant/weed killer?

There is a large pond that I fish at regularly and for some reason this year a lot of large plants and weeds grew to where I can't walk around the pond and it is very annoying. I want to find a way to kill the plants and weeds with something that is all natural and safe so if it rains and some of it runs off into the pond it won't kill the fish and change the water in color or anything like that. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  1. Salt will kill plants by sterilizing the ground. It's natural and safe for humans of course. I'm not sure how much salt could wash off into the water without harming the fish though.

  2. Salt is toxic and boiling water impractical for a large area.  The least toxic solution for what I imagine to be the situation is a machete.

  3. Try boiling wanter by the weeds roots.  Be careful obviously of the boiling factor but dosnt casue and harmfull effects like salt would to your fish.

  4. Call your local Cooperative Extension Service and ask for their recommendations.  They may want to see a sample of the plants.

Also, before you do anything find out who's pond it is that you fish in.  If it is yours O.K., but if it belongs to someone or to the town, you could be in trouble for illegal dumping, even though you are trying to do go.
