  1. in japan, we usually dont use apartments/condos to stay for a trip. i mean there is NOTHING like that. if there is ...its rare.

u should find a hotel or a japanese-style inn (there must be so many in Kyoto). i will put one of them here.

    http://www.hotel-yasui.co.jp/ht/00003460...

    i cant see next year's schedule though...if u would stay in this Sep 1th-14th, it would cost 10.000yen/night × 2 rooms(2ppl in one) × 14 days = 280.000yen (about $2800). wow it costs a lot...

Gion is one of the most famous places in Kyoto, so thats why hotel fee is that expensive. if u wanna save money, u should find a place to stay little far away from Gion. and take a train or bus to get to Gion. it must be much cheaper. but 2 weeks is kind long, u need at least $1.500-2.000 i guess.

    my advice is

    1. find a place out of Gion

    2. find a hotel which has a big room for 4 ppl

or current guide books will help u a lot. Good luck;)

  2. What about a hostel?

    These two are in Gion:

You may be able to find more. If you can't find that type of apartment for staying in, a hostel would probably be cheaper than staying in a ryokan for 2 weeks.

  3. You can try www.craigslist.com  Click on where it says Japan.
