If you are looking for an abstract art gallery in NYC, you have to check out Sobro 721.  They feature the work of the painter DM Weil, and if you haven't seen her paintings yet, you are in for a real treat.  I find that a lot of abstracts are a little dark, almost depressing, but the work at Sobro 721 is so bold and colorful it really gets me excited.  

I'm in the process of furnishing a new apartment, and DM Weil is doing a commission piece for me to work with my living room.  She is working around my color scheme.  I can't wait until the painting is finished.

Museum of Modern Art is good.

or there are some places in Chelsea

but I think the Village has the best galleries.
