  1. First, I'd like to thank you for making an effort to find out about what to feed your dog. You have taken a step many owners do not take and because of it, your dog may enjoy a healthier, longer life.

Personally, I wouldn't feed my dog a raw meat diet because of concerns of salmonella in chicken and whatnot. There is a pet food company called The Honest Kitchen that sells dehydrated raw pet foods. The raw meat in the food is dehydrated at temperatures above 120 degrees to kill any bacteria that may be present. Although it's a bit expensive, each bag is supposed to make a little more than four times its weight in fresh food when hydrated, so that is something to take into consideration.

If you do decide to go with dog food, remember that not all dog food is the same and different dogs will like/and or tolerate different foods. I feed one of my dogs Nutro and he's doing really well. My chihuahua (who is a very picky eater) eats Blue small breed formula. Solid Gold is another one to consider.

If you are concerned your dog may not like dry food, you can try mixing wet food and dry food. It may make it more appealing. :)

  2. why would you want to waste money buying raw meat for your dog? it would be cheaper to buy reg dog food, and the dog wouldnt really mind...and if u plan on giving it chicken, dont give the bones with it from the chicken.

  3. The B.A.R.F diet is actually the best diet for your dog to be on, it is the closest to what his natural food in the wild would be, but it can be rather expensive, might I suggest just feeding him a higher quality kibble like Solid Gold Pet foods, Solid Gold is a holistic pet food that is free from any salt, sugar, preservatives, wheat, corn, soy, added animal fat etc, and the number 1 ingredient is meat,it was not on the recall list and is made here in the USA, depending on youR dog there are different formulas that you could feed him, the hundenflocken is lamb and rice adult formula which is great for skin and coat, I feed this to my dog, and once i switched him onto it the changes were remarkable! He stop going potty in the house and had to go less, his coat got shiny and he stopped itching. I would not just feed him meat from the grocery store, the foods that are specifically for dogs have some added nutrients and dogs do need some vegetables mixed in there food as well

here is a website for a raw meat diet for dogs

    http://www.primalpetfoods.com/

and here is the website for solid gold pet foods

    http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/

You should definitely look into theses websites before you decide on what you want to do.

If you want to add some viarety try adding some wet food with the dry food, Merrick is a very good wet food that has a lot of different flavors, it is all natural and made in the usa as well, my dog loves it!! And some of it smells like dinty moore.

  4. I'm curious as to your motivation to feed your dog actual meat.

Not sure what's up with the thumbs down, but whatever.  Check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com for some more info on dry food.

  5. Well it's okay to feed them meats like that but your best bet would to go find a good dog food out there because meat you buy at the store has pesticides in it which aren't good for dogs and steak has allot of fat in it which can higher the chance of obesity in your dog. Obesity causes allot of long term problems with joints and stuff leading you to a not so healthy dog! Pick and all natural dog food one with out by products, one that's high in protein. Protein is the building block of good nutrition for dogs. Because dogs are carnivores, animal protein is easier for them to process and digest than proteins derived from grain products. All dogs should eat a premium dog food with the first ingredient listed as real meat. In addition, treats high in animal protein and low in fat, like real meat treats made of 100% chicken, duck or pork are a healthy complement to your dog's diet. TABLE SCRAPS [[ Human Food]] Once you reward begging behavior with table scraps or something off your plate, you can expect to see the same hopeful eyes looking up at you every meal from that day forward. That is fine if you do not mind, but if you have a dog that whines, the behavior may disrupt your dinner. If you do mind, you will have a hard time training your dog to stay out of the room now that he knows he just might get a handout. Table scraps do not offer the nutrition dogs need. The more you fill your pet up with your food the less likely he is to eat his own. And since our nutritional needs are not the same as our dogs', your dog will get less of the vitamins and minerals he needs and probably more of those he does not need.

Some good foods to look into-

    *Innova

    *Nutro

    *Nutri Source

    Hope this helps

    xx

  6. Get something like Nature's Recipe.  You can get it at PetSmart.  It is a meat based dog food, without the corn, etc. that is found in most dog foods.  It is intended to reduce food allergies.  You can get it in lamb and rice or chicken and rice.  Even venison (deer) and rice. Because the food is higher quality, they require less of it per feeding.  You can still feed some raw with this.  Feed raw chicken whether breast, leg quarters, etc.  We feed the leg quarters.  We have Great Danes and they do great on this diet.

  7. You should look into Raw Feeding. You basically feed your dog raw meat, organ and raw bones. You can feed any type of meat. It is best to start slow with chicken back or legs. You can go to beef or pork or fish.

You can give your dog a steak, but be prepared for your dog not to take it well. Your dog could get diarrhea or become ill. This is because it is not used to raw meat. If you keep feeding meat with bone, your dog should get used to it .
