  1. It's very nice of you to want to provide your friend with a new experience.  But where are you from?  where in Australia is your friend from?  My answer assumes you are from the U.S. and is generalized to fit your friend being from anywhere in Australia.....

Aussies have a wide variety of different foods from different cultures available to them.  And in some cases, an even better choice then we do...like in the Asian food department.  They have more authentic and better variety due to their close proximity to Asia I believe. :)

In any case, if you want an Aussie to eat something that they dont' have...hmm...an American Hot Dog or Corn Dog, good Chocolate (they only have Cadbury's and a few others..but in either case, we have much better local made chocolate here in the U.S.  I am in Pennsylvania and we have Sarris which is quite good.  The West Coast has See's Candies.  Hershey's is a good National Brand.).

Aussies are NOT into eating "garbage" foods too much as they are very healthy eating people on a whole I believe.  Lots of fruits and veg.  So - eating deep fried foods will not be on the top of their list but they will try a Corn Dog! ha ha.  They will appreciate a proper American Hot Dog as they have NOTHING that compares to that there...their Hot Dogs are no where near like a Hot Dog from the baseball game!  But don't expect them to have more than one or try it more than once...as they may not! ha ha.

And on the same sort of subject....they do not have the Italian Sausage that we have here nor the breakfast sausages we have.  Their sausages are very different.

I have always found my Aussie visitors to appreciate a "bottomless cup of coffee" at a local diner, a breakfast that costs $2-$3, and anything they consider "good value". :)  And by good value I mean could be anything from the "bottomless cup of coffee" (do not have) or a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt which costs much less here than it does there!  (Although with the exchange rate nowadays...maybe not so much these days!)

Anyway, hope this gives you some ideas.  Could think of more things probably if I had more time to think about it but I think offering your friend the above would suffice. :)  And you can believe that they will have ideas of what they will want to try, eat and do...so try to let them pick and choose what they would like to eat and do.

  2. Give them pumpkin pie.......... and a bucket. Sorry, but I've never known an Aussie to like pumpkin pie.

  3. If you're from the US Australians don't usually have such nice ribs as you do, and we also don't usually have bowls of chilli either - one of these might be worth a go.

  4. We eat the same food as you do, Australia is extremely multicultural and our diet consists of foods from all around the world, though we do have our own traditional foods too such as pavlova, lamingtons, meat pie, kangaroo, vegemite.

Perhaps make her something Australian, she will love the gesture. Lamingtons are quite easy to make.

Australians eat dinner at dinner time not for breakfast. I saw on another question turkey bacon, salsa omelet and fried potatos for breakfast! YUK! The thought makes me sick, thats dinner not breakfast.

Australians don't eat as much grease or fat as America, your burgers for example have so many different unnecessary sauses that do nothing but add to the fat content. Keep it simple and your friend will be happy.

Also many Australians like milk in their coffee, so make sure you always have some in the fridge.

  5. We are lucky in Australia to have a wide variety of foods/cuisines from all over the world (particularly if you live in a reasonable sized city.  Where are you from and what kind of foods is your area famous for?  I'm sure she will appreciate a nice home-cooked meal that is 'indigenous' to your region.

Make sure you serve some grog.  If she is a typical Aussie that will go down well.

  6. ~*~General Mills cereal~*~ or pie (that doesn't contain animal flesh 'cause we consume tonnes of that in Australia).

FYI, we have Hershey's chocolate. Everything else said so far is truth.

    GOODNIGHT.

  7. What?? you fresh outta wombats and kangaroos to chuck on the barbie??  Get real - we eat what every one else does and have international palates as well, you know. Australia is one of the best integrated and multi-cultural countries in the world. Just be yourself, act natural and live your normal life, she would probably appreciate that a whole lot more!
