I'm looking for good Hybrid bikes?

Ok, so I've decided I'm getting a Hybrid bike, because I will/want to be going on pavement a lot, but I also want the capability of going on terrain. I don't know much about bikes, just that I ride them and love it! So, I want to know what are some good manufacturers/ hybrid bikes.

Also I'm on a tight budget, so keepin' it low would be nice.

  1. I understand the budget. Look around, but be sure to compare apples to apples. Components and frame materials are normally the big differences. I suggest an aluminum frame for light weight.  I found forge bikes, http://www.forgebikes.com offer a very attractive offering, I have been very happy with my purchase. I had gotten mine through target.com. Outside of the Forge I also like Giant and Trek products.

  2. Several years ago I bought an SUV.  I didn't keep it long because an SUV is neither a good car nor a good truck.  Now I own a big truck for occasional use and a sports car, and am happy.

A "hybrid" bike is like an SUV, not really good at either application.

If you plan to primarily ride on pavement, but want to sometimes go on rough terrain there is another, and better, choice.  Buy a cyclocross bike.  Works great in both environments.

I own several bikes but keep a cyclocross bike at my place in the mountains, and use it for running to the store in town, road riding, Forest Service  roads, etc., and as a general loaner bike for friends who show up to visit without one.

  3. go for a steel (chromoly) frame for longevity and dependability. I like the KHS Urban Xpress ($485 canadian) with a decent frame and components. Buy at a bike shop. You'll need the regular maintenance warranty that comes with most bikes. expecially if you're gonna commute. Your bike will need work every six months or so.

  4. There is no bicycle to handle all kind of riding made yet and I am sure about this . Have a good quality trekking bicycle for your kind of riding , this bicycle will handle some rougher roads . For off road and terrain you will need MTB . Enduro is way to go . Hybrid bike will do not survive this kind of riding . Another option is to get more skinny tires for MTB if you riding most of the time on asphalt and looking for speed  . Schwalbe , Michelin ,. Panaracer and Continental have tires for your special need .

  5. The bike business is very competitive. Any two bikes at the same price point are very likely to be equivalent values. Buy the bike, not the brand. Go to your local bike shop and see what they have to offer in your price range. Test ride the bike. Then go to other bike shops and test ride what they have to offer. One bike will fit you better and feel better than the others. Buy that bike regardless of the name on it. It is the one you will ride and enjoy the most.
