I'm looking for information on a program where a low population state helps pay for medical school...?

A distant relative of mine went through this tuition assistance program, I believe with Kansas, and it was described to me as basically a contract with a state that they'll pay for your medical school tuition if you agree to practice there for an arranged amount of time. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and could you give me the name of this or any other information?

  1. I haven't heard of a state sponsored program, but the national Health Service Corps may be what was referenced.  The NHSC provides scholarships for medical school in exchange for commitments to work in public clinics for an agreed upon time.  They also have a program that will pay off student loans for an agreement to work in the clinics for a period of time.  The NHSC is in every state and most large cities.  Here's the link to their web site:  http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/
