I am a lifeguard, and at our pool they play top 40 music and I am sick of it. I want to make a CD of some rock but I don't know what is acceptable in a public pool. Most of the music I listen to is depressing, has some curse words or has screaming. Would Angels and Airwaves, Stars, Brand New, Smashing Pumpkins etc. be considered soft enough? Can someone suggest more? Keep in mind there are a lot of small children, no need to scare them!

  1. I hear that slipknot's doing well in schools these days

    EDIT:

    Seriously though.

    Jimmy eat world

    Billy Tallent

  2. That wouldn't be OK for a public pool imo. I have no idea what these teeny boppers listen to now a days.

  3. alot of classic rock would work fine. like led zeppelin or pink floyd. Or how about some lynard skynard? "paitence" by guns n roses would be good too.

  4. Those bands you mentioned are perfectly fine... How 'soft' can you get?

  5. http://www.mymusiclists.com/songs/best-r...

    This might help!

  6. if your lucky enough to have an indivudally owned local music store, im sure they would be happy to help and you could listen to the songs to make sure there not total pap.

  7. RASCAL FLATTS !!!!

they're lyrics are powerful and they're a alt. type of group.

no cursewords that i've heard so far

  8. I don't remember if some of these have cuss words, I know most don't.  None of these are depressing.  Political songs, songs about doing stuff illegal and noisy songs (doesn't translate well over the speakers and the songs tend to sound like dieing animals) are probably not welcomed.  Obvioously do a sound check to see if the songs translate well over the speakers.

  9. I would firstly like to recommend smashing pumpkins before I suggest any other bands. Out of the bands that you mentioned they are the most up tempo non-depressing band. Also a few of the songs from blink 182 would be great to get people going! some of the lyrics are a little rude but small kids would not understand. A little bit of Daughrty would not go amiss. A bit of classic rock added into your mix would be good to! Queen, led zeppelin and maybe a bit of AC/DC. Even though I despise them, Green Day are well enough known to be accepted in a public place! A little bit of indie is loved by everyone...preferably a bit of Killers or Kaiser Chiefs! Any of these would be a great addition! I personally love a bit depressing music but I realise that it is not every-ones cup of tea!

    Hope this is ok!

  10. I'd definitely say classic rock (Cream, The Kinks, The Who, The Beatles, Queen ...ect ect ect) maybe some blues mixed in. That's what I'd want to hear at a pool. But that's my opinion because I don't like much modern music.

  11. here's some suggestions from a HUGE music fanatic :)

    *Soul Asylum

    *Gin Blossoms

    *Savage Garden

    *Smashmouth

    *Smashing Pumpkins is fine!

    *Sugar Ray

    *Will Smith

    *David Bowie

    *U2

    *The Police

*Sublime - certain songs are ok, and great for summer time

    *Goo Goo Dolls

    *Beck

    *Madonna

    *Counting Crows

    *Blind Melon

    *Blondie

    *Pearl Jam

    *Red Hot Chili Peppers

    *Rolling Stones

    hope that helps!

  12. The Dream Syndicate - there early stuff is great not too much swearing if any at all i can't really remember. it's really catchy stuff but the only thing i think people may not like is that they have lot's of guitar feedback improvisations in there songs, but otherwise really good stuff

  13. Most anything that they play on variety radio stations would be okay. Someone mentioned slipknot.. but I don't think that would be good for the kiddies!!

    Try these:

Switchfoot, Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, some of Creed's older stuff, and even some old stuff from Red Hot Chili Peppers

  14. Hmm what about music that's sort of in between? Rock music that leans a little towards commercial pop... like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Jimmy Eat World or something similar.

  15. play aresomith

    stariway to heaven

stuff like that don't go punk

    maybe even beach boys

  16. Three doors down has songs that sound positive so no parents would freak about it, and its nuthin to scare lil kids.

    Maybe setther or 10 years
