I'm looking for tear-jerker stories about horse accidents from not wearing a helmet.?

Question

I am adding a page to the Coweta Round Up Clubs "Did You Know" page about wearing a riding helmet. Both my daughter and myself wear our riding helmets when we ride our horses. We are made fun of and laughed at when we go to parades, trail rides, barrel races, horse shows, junior rodeos, etc. This year my daughter competed at the Tulsa State Fair in flags, barrel racing, goat tying and break away roping I competed in senior goat tying and pole bending. Out of the hundreds of contestants she and I were the only ones wearing helmets.

I am looking for articles that will inspire people to wear a riding helmet. I remember reading one in Horse Illustrated in 2002 (I think) about an 11 year-old at a saddlebred show that had her horse slip in a mud puddle and she died of head injuries. I cried when I read the article her mother wrote for the magazine. I can't find that one anywhere on the internet. Please send me your stories and pictures of cracked broken helmets for my article. Hello, I saw your post and was trying to find the article you spoke about ....not so lucky. I did find this website that has a forum area that you might be able to find someone that has this magazine and could copy it for you and send it via e-mail. Just a thought...

All I can say is that from past experiance, I would probably not be here today if I was not wearing a helmet when I was flown over my horses head and crashed into an indoor wall head first at only 5 years old. I got away with a concussion and bad bloody nose, but hey! I'm still here.
