Question:

I'm looking for the best baseboard trim to use in my garage. I like the vinyl but 4 inches isn't enough.

My garage does not have a drain so the floor slopes towards the doors. About 4 1/2 inches total differentiation. Near the garage doors 4 inch trim is not going to reach the start of the drywall (it is concrete up to the beginning of the drywall) so there would be a gap between the drywall and the trim of about 1/2 inch. I don't want to use 6 inch vinyl because it appears bulky. I would consider 5 inch but can't locate it anywhere. My other concern with vinyl revolves around whether or not it will properly adhere to the epoxy floor. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

  1. The 6" vinyl baseboard can be cut to 5", or you could use 5" ceramic base tile.   Vinyl cove-base is usually not adhered to the floor, just the wall.

  2. Use 1x6 wood.  Put a nice half round on the top edge with a router.  That should follow your grade without any gaps on the lower end.  I don't like the vinyl because it wants to fall off.
