  1. I would say to get a Remmington 700 and spend the rest on GOOD optics for the weapon. The 700 will get the job done. Glass is even more important with a good weapon.

  2. In all my years in hunting their are 2 guns that i love and are impressive for shooting both boars and deer is firstly the .222 and the the 22 magnum they can shoot up to 300 to 400 yards..

  3. Any Remington, Savage, or Winchester Brand in 30-06 or 308 caliber can be had for $500.00 to $700.00.. With a 3 X 9 Variable scope included.*

  4. It would really be swell if you had included what your intended use for this rifle would be.

You could spend 2-3K on any number of rifles

Everything from an Olympic grade10M air rifle

To a rifle you could take Elephant with

    460 Weatherby Magnum

    And everything in between.

Later: To answer your added info - I would have to agree with "dca". A Remington 700 in .308 along with a good Leupold* scope should do the trick. You could spend more, but, I see no reason to. That set-up will do the job out to 500 yards, if you do yours.

    *The Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x- 50 runs about $550 USD
