Question:

I'm looking for the best (within a reasonable $ range ) bicycle tour of Ireland option!?

I may have the time available in July to do what I've always wanted to do...A bicycle tour of Ireland!!

Problem is I've never been to Europe much less Ireland and don't know where to start.

Does anyone have any recommendations / experience with this? Recommendations such as tour companies, route choices ( I keep hearing about the "ring of Kerry" for example), full packages, use of a U.S. vs. a local Ireland company, where to stay before / after etc. would be helpful and appreciated!

I want to get the best experience for a "reasonable" price. By that I mean I only have a few grand to spend and a week, maybe a few days more tops.

I saw, for example a nice package from Trek Travel complete w/ nights in castles nad such, but at $4-5k was out of my range.

I'll only have one chance for this and want to do it right as best I can afford.

  1. Hi - I have cycled all over Europe and can highly recommend going it alone!

here's what you do  -arrive wherever you arrive and hire a good touring bike. This is relatively easy but you should find out which company is nearest to whichever airport. Bring your own panniers. You wont need lights but make sure you have wet gear with you.

Use bed and breakfast places to stay at rather than hotels as it is much cheaper. I cycled Kerry last year and am planning Connemara this year. OS maps are great for Ireland and you'll find the whole thing relatively easy to organise.

    Any questions please email me.

  2. I'm sorry I don't know anything about bike tours but you can find everything on here:

    www.govisitireland.com

    It's all about hiking/cycle tours.

    Good luck with it! :)
