  1. 1. Entocea Pinchiorri - There is not much about this restaurant that is not stunning.  The cuisine is not comparable to any other restaurant in the city, the flavor combinations are unique and exceptionally executed.  The wine list is one of the most extensive and best in the world, as is the service.  Michelin recently awarded Pinchiorri its third star.

    2. Cibreo - The place to visit if you want true Tuscan food in Florence.  The serve no pasta, but you can get some wild ingredients like cockscomb and offal.  I am going to have dinner there on Saturday.

Tie for 3. Il Pizzaiuolo - While it does not belong in the same category as the first two, they make the best pizza I have ever had, nothing in the US, and very little in Italy can come close to this.

Tie for 3. Sostanza - A small trattoria that is tucked away from all of the tourist areas.  They serve some of the best Bistecca Alla Florentina in the city.  This is a cash only restaurant.  (having dinner there on Thursday).

  2. "Zaza" is really good and is a nice mix of true Florentine cuisine along with some fairly touristy choices.  It is located in Piazza Mercato Centrale near San Lorenzo and the leather markets.

"Antica Noe" is the name of that little sandwich shop that someone above me was trying to describe.  It is on Via dell'Oriuolo and it is very good.  Its in a little tunnel right next the Irish pub called "Lion's Fountain", its about a block from the post office too.

"La Rotonda" and "Acqua al Due" are both really good and fairly well known restaurants that you can look up on the web.

There is also a restaurant up in Fiesole that has a patio area overlooking the whole city of Florence.  I cant remember the name but its worth a 15 minute drive.  Or you can make an afternoon out of it and walk up the hill.

  3. top three, good question, ive been living here in italy for the last 4 years and im already loosing my touch in going to all the good restaurants.

    my personal top 3:

    1. Osteria della Belle Donne located in Via delle Belle Donne.

its a tiny tiny restaurant but i love the interior design and the peopel there are nice and the food is good and not overly expensive

    2. Noe's its actually not a restaurant, its a sandwich stand, in a not so pretty spot, but its well known and the sandwiches are sooo good. its by santa croce if  you keep on going the opposite direction of the arno, in that main street, santa croce would be on your right, keep on giong until the main street splits. theres a tiny piazza and an ugly dirty tunnel on your left, its right there, ask anyone theyll tell you. its worth going trust me.

i usually order a pannino with roast beef, arcichof, onions, lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes, tomatoes, mayonaise. its sooo good!!!

    3. theres this other restaurant it has some funky name, that i never remember,. but its located at the corner of these too streets i dont remmeber the name. locate where the movie theater Fulgor is located (its clsoe to the train station). its on this street perpendicular to the arno, walk opposite of the arno and at the first corner of that street there will be a restaurant. thats teh one i go to, i use to go there often when i use to live in the center of florence.

i use to order the big big appetizer, (ask about it there), and a piazza with mushrooms and prosciuto. real good! and it wanst too cheap at all.

you can go visit all the other top restaurants you wuold hear in a guide book, Il Latino, Quatro Leoni, ecc...but they are all extremly expensive, worth going only once in your life time.

  4. There was a little restaurant just behind the Duomo on the Right side. This place had the best food I ate the entire time I was in Italy.  A tailor recommended it to us, he said,”this is where I eat every other day.” sorry I don’t remember the name of it.
