I'm in NY. k12 isn't in my state, and I think I need something with teacher involvement which k12 doesn't have, as far as I know.

I'm looking for something that:

is secular

isn't outrageously expensive

is primarily online

has teacher interaction

most importantly, has a gifted or accelerated program.

When I started homeschooling I used Laurel Springs, and it was way too easy. Maybe it would have been easier if I was online instead of having my mom try to teach me.

It needs to be primarily online because I need to be able to take it with me. I have a way of getting an ultra-cheap laptop - ~$50 for a usable one- so I don't necessarily need a school that sends you one. My home life kind of sucks so portability really matters.

I haven't had much structure but I do well with it, and my mom can't teach me -don't want her to-, so teacher interaction would really help my grades. I liked school for a while, if you want an idea of my learning style.

Personal stories are great, good and bad.

  1. For 11th (and 12th) grade, why don't you look into attending classes at a local community college?

Many states pay the tuition so you would just have to purchase your books and supplies.

Plus, you would be "out of the house" and you would be earning college credit.

Seems to me that this option satisfies all of the needs you list (other than not being online) plus offers a bunch of additional benefits.

  2. for online schooling, i can suggest you a webiste which will not give you information about th e top ten accredited online shcools but also how to establish your chosen school's accreditation...i found it very handy and informative....best of luck :)

  4. I know this is expensive but at Alpha Omega academy, you get a graduation and stuff, but if you want some courses try kingswayacademy.org, or com don't remember

  5. Here's some info on online homeschooling that may help you:

    Good luck!

  6. Stanford's EPGY program is now open to gifted high schoolers for homeschooling. You do have to be certifyably gifted.

Stanford's online high school will offer two types of classes. One is a seminar-style course where students and teachers will use audio feeds to discuss and study online classroom materials together. In another more self-directed type of class, students will learn from a CD-ROM and contact instructors online with questions.

The HP Telementor Program is free, but you must apply and be accepted.

  7. K12 *is* in your state, just not as a virtual public school.  You can purchase their  high school courses through their "Consumer Direct" option, which is how I purchase K12.  The courses are $350/course/semester and are taught by a teacher, not by you (you have to do a lot on your own, though), or your parents.

I would steer clear of Penn Foster just based on what I've heard here.

Here are some options for reputable high school courses:

K12 (uses some Apex courses and some of their own):

    Try Apex:
