I like Sony, but I want to spend between 600-1200 bucks. What's a good one?

  1. Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HV7, HC9.

MiniDV tape provides best available video quality because DV and HDV compress WAY less than the highly compressed MPEG2 standard definition or AVCHD compressed high definition from hard drive or flash memory based camcorders.

The four cameras above also have a mic in jack and full manual audio control.

DVD based camcorders compress the most and provide the worst possible video quality. PLEASE DO NOT BUY A DVD BASCED CAMCORDER.
