I'm looking to become an actress... does anyone know where to start?

I'm fourteen years old, living in New York. I really want to become an actress, and I was wondering how to break into that field. Are acting workshops necessary? Are there any websites with open auditions people know of? Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

well YA acting classes ARE necessary!!! build up ur resume more 1st w/ acting workshops and THEN u can start  going out 4 tv shows and stuff

then get experience

cultural arts playhouse gives you the opportunity to be in 8-10 plays per year

then get an agent

you should start off with school plays or community theater. since you live in ny you won't have any trouble finding one. if you feel comfortable performing once you get roles from auditions you have to go to more auditions to get the experience. Acting classes are helpful and the best actors have gone to acting workshops to be where they are today. find also a talent agency who will find auditions for you as well as be able to help you improve your skills as an actress by finding a variety in roles so you can expand your acting abilities. also look into the arts section of the newspaper for auditions as well as online looking under casting. good luck.

also there are no legit casting sites the only true way to get movie and tv auditions are with an agent so get busy! :)
