What is a good brand, with good quality and good price? I'm willing to go as high as $800-$1000 if needed. I'm going to be shooting skits and maybe some longer stories. I've done my research but i wanted the opinion of some experts.

Something with this type of quality http://youtube.com/watch?v=FiFKS62wQAA

Any ideas?

  1. Here are the top rated models by Consumer Reports

    Standard Definition:

    Cannon DC30

    $400 range

    High Definition:

    Sony HDR SR5

    $800 range

Keep in mind CR does not take advertising and is a completely self sufficient magazine that gains nothing through brand loyalty. I use it as my purchasing bible and have never been led wrong.

  2. I would recommend the Sony DCR-HC96. The HC96 is only about 500$ on Amazon and it shoots amazing videos! I think the HC96 has a great balance of quality and price. The HC96 uses DV tapes. DV tapes are the only way to go if you plan on making movies. Hard drive camcorders just aren't as use full as DV camcorders are. If you want an example of good quality check out. http://www.youtube.com/tenioman

    The Sony Handy cam DCR-HC96.
