i want something that can play diverse sounds of music. I want it to be able to play clean sounding music like the spill canvas's new album. I also want it to be able to handle the heavy sounding stuff as well, like avenged sevenfold, without sounding crappy. If anyone knows of any great guitars they've played that are pretty diverse or heard of anything, please give me some help. I was looking at this one for awhile but can't figure out if this would work

  1. It's personal preference really.  A lot of what tone you get is going to be decided by the combination of style of play, guitar, and amp.

I'd look at what type of amp you are looking at getting.  I'm a fan of Marshall because they tend to give a large variety of tone.  Line 6 is alright.  Fender is pretty generic.

Also I'd look at PRS guitars at that price range.  PRS is one of the last companies to hand make every guitar.  The quality of a PRS is hands down incredible.  They are also very versatile, giving you the ability to play all types of styles.

    PRS SE One - $499

    Marshall Head MG100HDFX - $350

That there would be a sick setup.

Also I'd order from Sweetwater as opposed to Musicians Friend.  Sweetwater will set your guitar up for free before they ship it out.  That is get the strings as low to the fret board without buzzing.  As well as put it through a 55 point inspection.  Free Shipping and the best customer service around.

Also, just a warning, you won't get the same answer twice on here.  Which guitar is always up to the player.  So it's never a bad idea to go to a large store if you can and try some out.  If you can't stay with well known name brands:  PRS, Fender, Gibson

  2. my advice- Fender Stratocaster, the most versatile guitar ever, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigatio... this page has lots of them, you can choose either cheaper ones made in Mexico to ones made in USA and Japan. even the Fender Standard Stratocaster isn't bad and will cover anything from jazz to classic, blues, rock, heavy rock and even some metal if you will.

So this plus a decent tube amp will make you shine in front of others, because you will have a quality of sound and will make you a man with a sense of how to start. for the amp I could suggest something from Fender line too like http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/F... this one. Marshall has got cheap over the years and the only good amps they sell are far above 1500 bucks. unfortunately, the same with Ibanez, however your choice is fairly decent. I'd suggest going to a guitar shop and see for yourself how you feel it or just order straight away, it's not expensive.

Ibanez is better for jazz fusion and something more heavy but not as much straightforward rock and not at all blues. Cheaper Ibanez's tend to **** up pretty fast but as I said, your choice isn't bad, if you want and can't get anything more expensive, go for it!
