I'm in many IB classes and am extremely interested in different cultures. I am hoping to do a one-semester exchange in France this coming school year, but I am worried about how my IB credits would transfer. Also, I can not find the average cost of a one-semester exhcange online. If anyone has an answer to these two concerns or an experience they would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

  1. Try contacting an University in the area you would like to study. They will be able to give you prices. As far as working about credits match up,

Contact your guidance councellor at your school and have them sit down, talk too you and plan out how things can and are going too work.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I dont know if ur looking for a group to travel with, but EF Tours is a great group, and the cost is around 2,300 round trip. Its pretty good and the plp are great.

  3. WIth Rotary you only need to pay an open-ended plane ticket.  The rest of the cost is absorbed by volunteer host families...and it is BY FAR the best exchange program you will ever come across (yeah I'm a bit bias...lol).

Normally Rotary exchanges are a year long, and if you really want to learn French, I'd recommend that you go for a year rather than a semester.

Don't worry about your IB classes and transfer from US to France.  You will go to school in France and transfer your credits from there back to the US.

Key thing to make sure you take care of before going abroad:

High school credit requirements...most require 4 years of English...if you spend a year in France, your credits for English won't transfer (it's ESL)...so you will need to take summer school before you go abroad or graduate a year later just because of one stupid class.

Rotary exchange is a great experience.  I recommend it highly, but you really should consider going in for an entire year.  Either way (semester or year) an open ended plane ticket costs the same...and never again will the opportunity for such an amazing experience at an affordable price open up.  Trust me...college programs are overpriced, and largely worthless...it's like spending 6K to go to a 3 month long party.../groan

    Hope that helps

    *cheers*
