  1. Your going to have to be certified before you can get a tank filled so, before you invest in scuba gear, why don't you enroll in a scuba diving class to, 1. see if you are going to like it. 2. See if you are able to do it. (there are people who can't for one reason or other)   When you enroll, they will tell you what basic equipment you need, if any. You may be interested in Hookah diving which is cheaper, and has some advantages (and disadvantages)  Search "hookah diving" and see what it's about if you think it may be an option.   ...Good Luck...

Hookah doesn't require a certificate as far as I know, but it is recommended that people attend scuba diving classes to learn the safety aspects of diving...

  2. You'll need to take an Open Water Diver certification class.  When you enroll they will give you a list of items that are required, and these vary somewhat from class to class.

A minimum will be mask, snorkle and fins.  It is also common to require neoprene booties.  It may also help you to get a wetsuit, but most programs will provide that along with all the life-support gear:  SCUBA regulator, tank, bouyancy vest, weights & belt, and gauges.

A normal class will typically run you $200 and up (at least here on the West Coast, USA).  Some classes offer boat diving as well as beach dives and that may push the cost up quite a lot more.  An introductory 'resort' course which allows you to dive only with an instructor is very inexpensive and might be a good idea if you aren't sure you'll like it.

Scuba Diving is a great activity with different sorts of diving all over the world.  Once you get certified and if you find you like it you'll eventually want to get your own gear.  The more you own, the easier it is to pick-up and go diving, so the more you'll do it!

But get a good certification class to start.  That's the only way to learn the sport safely.
