I'm looking for a heavy worsted weight tweed yarn, in dark blue, or black/ charcoal grey.

the problem is I need 1600 yards of it, and it can't be wool cause my boyfriend is allergic...

also I can't afford 100 bucks for a sweater, i'm looking for a nice cheap yarn.

Anybody know of any?

  1. It's never cheap to make a sweater with good yarn. In fact it's often more expensive than buying one, but we do it because we want the custom look and the fun of making it for ourselves.

If you have to save money, why not make it with a plain color yarn, then do a faux dyeing technique after the sweater is finished? You could apply the colors with a paintbrush to get the look you want.

  2. Well, I'll partially agree with Kacky, at least about the costs of a good yarn sweater, but not about the dyeing, that can be tricky at best for someone who is inexperienced in dyeing.  Are there reasonably priced non-wool yarns that will result in a decent sweater?  Yes, you may want to look at Encore from Plymouth, among others.  Go to www.yarn.com, or www.patternworks.com, or www.elann.com and look at the different yarns and see if there's something that strikes you.
