I live in Longboat Key, FL, which is an island off the coast of Sarasota, South of Tampa. I love it here, but it is very expensive, taxes, INSURANCE, wind, flood, fire etc. I pay $3500/yr. just for my insurance, and I am lucky that my company did not drop me. Many insurance companies did drop their customers.

If I were you, I would look at Charlotte County, FL. That is just South of where I am. It is nice and mostly new.
