I'm currently starting my second year of uni in septemeber. I'm doing a design course, but i've almost become convinced that i won't get employed in a related job when i graduate. I just think it would be to competitive and to rare. So i would like to know is, worst case scenario, if i can't get employed in a related field. What are my options, was a degree just a waste of time? What kind of jobs are available to those who have done degrees in any field?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. You could do web design if you so a short computer course.

Or you could be an editor of a mag/paper.

Dont lower your options. You'll be fine

  2. In many companies, most any degree is a standard academic qualification for entry level positions leading to great careers. These companies just want to know that you're academically sound and capable of performing at a given level, then they will train you in the special field for which they employed you. From that standpoint, degrees are never a waste of time.

On the other hand, is it possible to change majors since you're just beginning your second year? If you don't have confidence in the course you're doing, you may not have the passion and inspiration to do it to the best. There's bound to be some amount of lost motivation. Think about that. Best wishes.
