just be original. My favorite rapper, Mr. Lif, is the most original lyricist i have ever heard. He has songs about nuclear halocaust (earthcrushers) and waged slavery in your everyday office (i phantom). You really have to check him out. Another one of my favorites is Jedi Mind Tricks. In their new album, Servants in Heaven, Kings in h**l, they have a song about Vietnam (uncommon valor...amazing song btw) and a song about the conditions in a Hondurean sweat shop (shadow business). Again, check this songs out for lyrical inspiration. Del The Funky Homosapien came out with a album with producers The Automator and Kid Koala, Deltron 3030. This album is awesome too. Its about intergalactic rap, battle rapping aliens and sh*t like that... truly ingenius.

Just a little advice from a hip-hop connoseur: stay away from political rap unless you can actually pull it off, theres only one Immortal Technique and lets try to keep it that way. Stay away from the topics you already said, you really dont want to be mainstream. Like i said, BE ORIGINAL!!! One more thing, POETRY IS UNDERRATED IN HIP-HOP. Be poetic in your rhymes, use unqiue rhyme schemes and use elaborate metaphors rather than one-line similies. If your into it, even try to a little post-modern sh*t like aesop rock and the Ropeladder members.
