I'm going because my mom is going with her friends and they wanted me to come too! We're going for a week.

I wanna know what it's like, what the weather is, how I should dress, what I should bring, what places I should see, how much of the language I should learn/what words?

I wanna know everything I need to know!

Thanks !

  1. Hi there,

I've been to Italy just once but spent almost 2 months there and loved every minute of it.

Personally I just learnt the basic words, please and thankyou's etc and this was sufficient, Italy is well geared up for tourism and there were not many occasions I had difficulty.  Only when your off the beaten track but even so - there is generally someone willing to help.

I much prefered Rome (anywhere south, I didn't like the north as much but thats just me), and my favorite place of all time is called 'Cinque Terre' (meaning 5 towns) on the coast and I would highly reccomend going there - you walk between them and there is a hostel at the first town, it's beautiful place, it's also quite close to the popular Pisa. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinque_Terr...

I cant remember exactly when I was there off the top of my head but it was very warm.  I suggest checking the Lonely Planet website for climate informaton.

Other great places to visit, Verona, Siena, Florence and of course - Venice.  I would suggest researching a little to find what you are looking to see.  Cinque Terre for example is quiet, relaxed place but that's my sort of thing - A place to chill out.

Dress how you wish in my opinion. Younger Italians in the bigger cities are fashion concious but don't let this bother you.  They like the brand names (Gucci, Nike  etc etc) expecially up north.

Sadly your only going for a week - sound like your going to be busy!

    Hope this helps.

  2. Italy is great at any time of year.  It will still be warm in October, maybe a little rain but all depends on where you are going.  Because the major cities are best seen on foot, I would suggest comfortable shoes.  If you are only going for a week I would suggest visiting 2 cities maximum.  Anymore and you will not be able to appreciate the cities you visit.  Rome is a must for me.  Then maybe Venice as it is very different.  I would say 5 days in Rome and 2 in Venice.

Learn how to say a basic hello and goodbye, please, thank you and "do you speak english?"

    Hello/Goodbye:  Ciao

    Please: per favore

    thankyou: grazie

do you speak english?: parla inglesi

that should be enough for the basics but learn more if you can
