Question:

I'm missing two teeth! Is that uncommon?

I'm missing the two outside incisors of my four front teeth on the top. I currently have braces to move my canines to the right places and to make room for implants. It's really embarrassing to smile and have people see the gaps. I have two questions. 1. Is it uncommon to have missing teeth? 2. Once I get the implants, will my gums be blackish?(Do you know what I mean by blackish?)

  1. It is a genetic condition to have missing teeth. Someone in your family has this also. It is good that you will eventually have implants. That will give you a nice result. As far as the gums being blackish? Do you mean that sometimes you can see a dark line around crowns on some front teeth? If that is what you mean, this can be prevented by having your dentist restore the implants with full porcelain crowns. No metal underneath means no dark line. Hope that was helpful to you!
