I'm planning on moving to Cherokee or Bartow County. My Hus and I are nurses, if that matters.

  1. dont do it

  2. The normal best answer is get a job before you move.  In your case that is less of a problem bec of nursing shortages but still if you know where you will be working you can look for a place to live reasonably close to work and save gas and save your nerves. If you haven't been here lately be forewarned that the metro Atlanta commuting snarles have reached both Cherokee and Bartow tho maybe a little less in Bartow.   That said I happen to like Cherokee better but that is a personal thing.

Do you have your GA nursing licenses yet or are you in a state where licensing is automatically transferrable to GA.  If not that is obviously step 1.   Step 2 is to get a good idea iof the kind of nursing you each want to do and the shifts you want and whether a 8 hr shift or a Baylor plan or what.   Then depending on what you want check out http://www.dol.state.ga.us  GA dept of labor job listings and http://www.thejobsite.org for jobs with the state of GA if an institutional setting, mental health or punblic health appeal to you.    If you prefer hospital settings go to http://www.altavista.com/web/adv and look up hospitals near where you want to be

per Bartow Chamber of Commerce there are 114  MD's

25 Dentists, 1 Hospital (112 beds) 2 Nursing Homes (244 Beds) 6 Personal Care Homes plus the Bartow County Health Department in that area.   You can find the same type info for Cherokee.  Each county Chamber of Commerce will also have visitor's info, home buying info and rental info.

If you mortgage qualify this may be a good time to buy a home because the market is very slow but be aware that selling the home again will probably be difficult.

And don't let the folks who put down Atlanta or don't know the difference between  Cherokee or Bartow and downtown get to you.
