I've never moved cross country and a bit scared. I'm wondering how in the heck people find employment, apartments, etc. Its going be a big move for me and I may be going by myself. Not familiar with the area either. I'm not sure how people could become familiar with the area, unless they take tons of vacation time off from their employer and spend lots of money on plane tickets etc. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  1. I moved there when I was 19.  I made sure I could get my money out of my bank when I got there.  I saved what I thought would be about 2 mos. rent.

I drove there, found a cheap hotel and drove around until I saw neighborhoods that I would like to live.  Took all phone numbers, called to see how fast I could get into a place.  Many turned up and I was in my first apartment within 5 days.

Same thing for jobs.  Pick up the newspaper and start pounding the streets.  I started dishwashing, moved right along, soon enough I was bartending at a great place.

    Do it!

There is so much to do and see that is free or cheap.

You're young and you can do anything you want.

It was a lot of fun and a great adventure.  I love Seattle.

I was coming from Tucson and packed snow chains and umbrellas.  I didn't need those.

    Have fun, Good luck!

  2. First off why not check out the sites for Seattle?

    Here's some links:

    http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/

    http://www.visitseattle.org/

    http://www.seattle.com/

    http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sew/

Here's an important link concerning jobs there:

    http://www.lni.wa.gov/

It's easier to sit at the computer than running the interstates just to see what's up there. If you do decide to make the trip, be  sure to  give yourself enough time to see somethings and not be buried with worries. It's another step  you really need to take!
