i have work & somewhere to live, i've sorted transportation for all my things, i'm taking my pets with me. but there's a few things i need to find out about. i'm taking my car with me (an old heap, but too reliable to get shot of). does it need to be re-registered in Eire? how do i get on about working, do i need to register with any government department or something like that? do i need an irish bank account?

i'm being made homeless in the uk, with nowhere to go except Eire. i have a beautiful place to live over there, i can't miss out on this opportunity, or s***w up by not knowing something! any help much appreciated, there's a lot i need to know!

  1. you'll be allowed to drive your car for as long as your insurance policy in England will cover you for..Then you will have to get insured with an Irish company and pay VRT, a tax that will depend on the year of the car and it's current market value.

Your job will sort out your PPI number, so I wouldn't worry too much about that, you may have to pay emergency tax though until it's all sorted out, so maybe you would be best seeing a local citizens advice bureau to help you there.

FAS is the agency that deals with employment, it's like the job centre. So perhaps a visit to them will help.

Open a bank account either with Ulster bank or the TSB, they give free banking....bank of Ireland are robbing b@stards, they charge for putting money into YOUR account and AIB charge for transaction fees..

Leitrim, never there, but will be nice I'm sure..

  2. http://www.gov.ie

  3. if your taking your car to ireland for more than 6 months, you have to inform D.V.L.A at Swansea. i think after the 6 months, you can apply for a irish number plate,- contact swansea, they will advise you.

you will have to get an Irish National insurance number, you get this from the local dole office.most towns / cities have these. my cousin lives in a 3 street town and there have a dole office open 2 days a week

as for a bank account in ireland you will need one, like over here most companies pay your wages into your bank account.

best of luck, i was planning to do this, last year, but my job fell through. i still want to do this, but cant get a job in ireland

the irish are a friendly lot, i should know, i have cousins etc in ireland

  4. and the very of luck to you ,you will love it .
