  1. Not knowing your miles per gallon makes it difficult to know what you're going to spend on gas, since you divide total miles driven by your mpg to get gallons of gasoline for the trip.

Since you only have a 10 gallon tank, which actually seems too small, your car must get good mpg.  Most cars have a 300+ mile range on a tank of gasoline and typically it's over 350 miles.  We'll use 30 miles per gallon as our number, better to err on the side of caution.

You don't specify where in NC you're beginning your trip, I've chosen Elizabeth City, which is in NE NC and about as far away as possible.  The total miles is 1540.  Dividing 1540 by 30 gives you an estimate of 51 gallons of gasoline used.  I'm stopping you at about 280 miles  for each stop to give you a little reserve.

Starting with a full tank will get you to about Anderson, SC.  At today's prices, a 10 gallon fillup will cost you $26.  Your next stop will be around Birmingham, AL, where you'll spend another $26.  Your next stop will be near Tallulah, LA, where you'll part with another $27 for gasoline.  Your last gasoline stop will put you btween Tyler and Canton, Texas, where gasoline is running $26 for a tankful.  This should get you into Brownswood with about 2 gallons to spare.

Your total cost?  I'd say about 105-110 dollars.  If your car gets closer, to 40 mpg, your gasoline cost drops to 80 dollars.

    Happy driving!!
